Myspace bots are automated tools used for various MySpace activities that were supposed to be done manually such as searching for friends, adding friends, and send messages using your MySpace profile.
To a normal MySpace user, MySpace bots are not necessary since they will personally search for their friends and spend time reading their blog posts and profile updates. They will be able to write an original comment and add friends they really know at a more personal level. But since MySpace has become a popular marketing tool and friends are considered as potential customers, drastic measures are then applied to be able to get ahead of your competitors.
An average MySpace bot can send 200-500 friend requests at once, depending on the bot user. There are also phishing bots that recognize data entered by your friends then send out these collected data to a remote location. It is because of these bots that MySpace has become a notorious social media site for spammers.
In an effort to stop these malpractices and maintain a clean community, MySpace started deleting accounts that use bots. They apply strict anti-spam methods to ward off spammers and protect their existing community. MySpace even sued bot companies to deter future bot developers.
